Biography

Sheryne Southard earned her Juris Doctor from the Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law at Arizona State University, and she holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Management from the University of Nevada.  She began her career as a trial attorney, where she practiced for 9 years with a concentration on medical malpractice and civil litigation.   During this time, she successfully argued before the Georgia Court of Appeals. She is currently a Professor of Legal Studies at Clayton State University.  She has been awarded two Board of Regents’ awards for her expertise in online teaching, namely Excellence in Online Teaching and Scholarship of Teaching and Learning. These awards have been described as "the highest honor for faculty at Georgia’s public colleges and universities.” She has also received three other online course development awards.  She is the co-author of a Fundamentals of Georgia Family Law textbook and a second edition of a Georgia Estate Planning textbook.  She has researched and published articles in the areas of asynchronous distance education pedagogy, quality assurance standards, faculty training, and best practices.
