Biography

I have held administrative and faculty roles at six colleges/universities. My focus has always been on helping students to be successful. To further that goal I have been an member and officer for a number of professional organizations, including President of the National College Learning Center Association. I have developed three first year student courses that were implemented university-wide and supervised two learning community programs. I have been intimately involved with starting and supporting community engagement programs. I have also worked in or played a supervisory role for learning center programs. I provided oversight of academic advising programs. Mentoring, training, and consulting were additional areas I pursued. I had a special interest and gained experience working with students with learning disabilities. I chaired numerous university-wide and departmental committees and served on a number of USG committees. I was often involved in committees that sought to increase retention, improve curriculum, develop new programs, or hire new faculty members. I have published a few articles, book chapters and published non-refereed work.

Education

Teaching Interest

I have taught many different courses in several fields: developmental courses, liberal arts courses, communication courses and philosophy courses. I especially enjoy teaching ethics, symbolic logic, public speaking and organizational communication classes. I try to do my best to balance what students learn from theory and experience and ensure that students are engaged with each other and the material.

Research Interest

I am most interested in trying to understand organizational culture. My administrative duties and strong teaching interests have often hindered my ability to pursue my research interests. I retired in 2024, but continue to teach part-time. I am currently doing historical research in my new hometown.
