Biography

After teaching high school and earning an MEd as Reading Specialist and a PhD in English, both at Georgia State University, I became a Lecturer and later Senior Lecturer at Clayton State University. Both mother and grandmother, I have always been dedicated to my two sons and family. I am a book lover and visit libraries as well as book stores when I travel. I love reading and studying, and I also love supporting and teaching students who are great readers and writers.

Education

Teaching Interest

My major teaching interests are Composition, Reading, Creative Writing (fiction), and contemporary literature. I completed the Online Academy for virtual instruction at CSU, and have taught online for over eight years. I continue to build skills in digital pedagogy as well as preparing additional materials geared toward teaching critical reading and composition online for college students.

Research Interest

My research interests include ethnographic study of cultural traits of descendants of Appalachian emigrants, evolving digital literacy and changing reading habits of digital natives, and contemporary literature by varying cultural groups. Currently I am looking at the dystopian fiction of Octavia Butler, the work of Tommy Orange, , and mythic and folkloric patterns in the work of Toni Morrison.
