Biography

Arietha Lockhart is a retired Elementary Music Specialist. She frequently works as a long-term sub in Elementary Music classes in the Greater Metro Area. She has served as a leader of Professional Development for New Teachers and Elementary Honor Chorus Chair in DeKalb County. A professional singer, she is at home in both the Opera, Oratorio and Concert settings and frequently performs the premiers of new works by contemporary American, African American and Women Composers. Her largest audience never saw her. She recorded the voice of the Southern Spirit for the world-wide broadcast of the Opening Ceremonies of the 1996 Summer Olympics that took place in Atlanta, Georgia. She works part-time at Clayton State University and with the Atlanta Young Singers. Arietha is active in the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Choruses, Atlanta Voices, the Atlanta Alumni Chapter of Mu Phi Epsilon, and the Children’s and Music Ministries at Solid Rock African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church.

Teaching Interest

Arietha has participated in professional development conferences for music educators. She has been asked to share with new and preservice teachers, Atlanta Area Orff, Kodaly Educators of GA and other conferences where she presented workshops on teaching special learners, singing in elementary school, grant writing for teachers and mentoring and teacher retention for young teachers.
